
On February 6th, a Border Guard patrol near the border in the Szypliszki commune detained four migrants who had illegally crossed the Polish-Lithuanian border. They were two Somali citizens and two Ethiopians. The young men lacked documents authorizing entry and residence in Poland.
In the same area, a second patrol detained a Lithuanian citizen who had come to pick up foreigners after illegally crossing the border in order to transport them deeper into Europe.
The detained foreigners will be transferred to Lithuania under readmission. The driver faces up to eight years in prison.
Since the introduction of temporary controls on the Polish-Lithuanian border, over 260 people who illegally entered Poland from Lithuania, as well as 46 helpers and organizers of illegal border crossings, have been readmitted.
