Andreas Kriechbaum-Zabini is a Senior Research Engineer and Thematic Coordinator at the AIT Austrian Institute of Technology, specialising in data science and artificial intelligence for safety and security applications. In his role as thematic coordinator, he leads advanced research in visual sensing, with a particular focus on optical sensing, identity management, and immersive training technologies.
He has coordinated major EU-funded border security projects, including FastPass, Foldout, and BorderForce, overseeing multi-million-euro budgets and the technical implementation of consortia comprising up to 28 partners. Andreas also serves as an expert advisor to the European Commission (CERIS, DG HOME) on border management innovation.
He combines deep technical expertise in visual sensing for border security with proven leadership, coordination, and business development skills.
