Over the holiday weekend, officers from the Podlaskie Border Guard Unit discovered five packages containing contraband cigarettes. Fragments of weather balloons were also found. The illegal shipments were discovered by officers from Border Guard posts in Narewka, Kuźnica, Mielnik, Nowy Dwór, and Szudziałów.
In five incidents, over 7,000 packages of illegal cigarettes of various brands were detected, with an estimated value of over PLN 120,000. Efforts are underway to identify those involved in sending and receiving the illegal shipments.
Since the beginning of the year, the Podlasie Border Guard has recorded 135 incidents of cigarette smuggling using weather balloons. The estimated value of the seized cigarettes is over PLN 3.4 million.
