More than 1.5 tons of cocaine seized in a major anti-drug operation in Galicia

The Civil Guard, in an operation carried out together with the National Police and the Customs Surveillance Service, has proceeded to dismantle a major criminal organization dedicated to the collection and introduction of large quantities of cocaine into national territory through the use of High Speed Vessels (HSVs).

This investigation began in January 2025 after the discovery of a semi-submersible, presumably used to introduce cocaine into our country through the Galician coast, specifically through the beach of Os Muiños in Muxía (A Coruña).

It was possible to prove the existence of a criminal organization based in the territory of the Costa da Morte, specialized in the introduction of large shipments of narcotic substances, whose members carried out their criminal activity in isolated places on the Galician coast, which required a special knowledge of the area, due to its particular orography.

Overall results of the operation after the latest transaction

After a long and complex investigation, in the early hours of yesterday, after detecting how the criminal organization was planning to carry out another drug trafficking operation by sea, using a high-speed vessel (EAV), a large operation was established that resulted in the arrest of 20 people, including a member of the Civil Guard and the seizure of more than 1,500 kilos of cocaine at the moment they were being unloaded on a remote beach on the coast of A Coruña, specifically on Arnela beach, in Muxía.

The operation was carried out by the Organized Crime Team based in Galicia of the Central Operational Unit (UCO) of the Civil Guard, together with agents of the National Police and the Customs Surveillance Service.
