Bulgarian State Security uncovered an illegal printing house for counterfeit documents and currency, two criminally active men were detained

In a significant crackdown on counterfeiting activities, officers from the Economic Police Department at the State Directorate of Internal Affairs executed a specialized operation aimed at combating crimes related to the fabrication of securities, banknotes, and false documents.

During the operation, authorities detained an individual who was found in possession of three counterfeit ID cards. Further investigation led to the discovery of two production sites: one located in the industrial zone of “Voenna Rampa” and another in a residential area known as “Zona B-18.”

At these locations, police seized a range of equipment used for the production of fake official documents, including ID cards, passports, and visas, as well as counterfeit banknotes valued at 50 and 100 euros.

The operation extended to four addresses in the capital, where procedural and investigative actions included “search and seizure.” The following items were confiscated:

  • 3 counterfeit ID cards
  • 17 foreign passports
  • 58 pages for international passports
  • 10 identity document booklets
  • 81 plastic ID cards
  • 85 hologram stickers and holograms
  • 2 metal clichés featuring the coat of arms of the Republic of Bulgaria
  • 1 printing screen
  • 15 clichés for hot stamping holograms
  • 1 laminating machine with consumables
  • Computer configurations, printers, multiple flash drives, and other materials linked to the criminal operations.

Two suspects, aged 75 and 68, have been detained in connection with the case. Both men have been charged under Article 308, paragraph 5 of the Criminal Code. The 68-year-old is currently held in custody for up to 72 hours, while the 75-year-old has been released on bail. Investigations are ongoing to determine any additional individuals involved in this extensive counterfeiting scheme.
