The procedure originated from an alert issued by the General Directorate of Civil Aeronautics (DGAC), which, in accordance with established protocol, informed the National Customs Service to activate the inspection. Customs officials confirmed the alert and detected six packages containing 740 grams of ketamine strapped to a passenger’s body.
The procedure began when the DGAC (Directorate General of Civil Aviation) issued an alert regarding a passenger preparing to board a domestic flight to Santiago. In accordance with the established coordination protocol, the alert was communicated to the National Customs Service, whose inspectors responded to carry out the corresponding procedure.
Customs officials conducted the inspection and confirmed the situation, discovering that the passenger, a 29-year-old Chilean citizen, was carrying six packages of ketamine strapped to his body. The substances had a total gross weight of 740 grams.
Following the detection, Customs placed the passenger and the substances at the disposal of the Chilean Investigative Police (PDI), through the BRIANT Iquique, also informing the Iquique Prosecutor’s Office for the continuation of the investigative procedures and the determination of the corresponding responsibilities.
The procedure highlights the importance of coordination protocols between institutions responsible for control and security at airport facilities. In this case, the alert allowed for the timely intervention of Customs, whose officials carried out the inspection and confirmed the transport of the illicit substance, subsequently handing over the information and the individual involved to the appropriate authorities.
