Nine Iraqis found hiding in modified tanks of three trucks. One of the drivers offered a border policeman a bribe of 480 euros

On September 28, 2025, in the vicinity of the former Giurgiu-Ruse border crossing point, Giurgiu border police officers, on duty on DN5, stopped three trucks registered in Turkey, driven by Turkish citizens, for checks. The vehicles were loaded with mineral wool, from Turkey for Romania.

Following the inspection, border police discovered modifications to the tanks of the three trucks, which were out of service and each had an access door cut out. Inside each tank, three foreign citizens of Iraqi nationality were discovered hidden, who did not have legal travel documents.

During the check, one of the drivers offered a border police officer the sum of 480 euros as a bribe, to facilitate the fraudulent crossing of the border.

The border police officer categorically refused the amount of money and immediately notified the Giurgiu County Anti-Corruption Service.
