Mr. Sadiq Misbau Murtala is a Chief Superintendent of Customs (CSC) with the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), bringing over a decade of specialized experience in illicit trade data analysis, enforcement intelligence, and border security operations. He is consistently recognized for his outstanding performance, analytical depth, and contributions to organizational effectiveness and international collaboration. A graduate of Salem University, Lokoja, Kogi State, Mr. Sadiq holds a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in Information Technology, which underpins his strong foundation in data processing, analytics, and information management. Since his enlistment into the Nigeria Customs Service in 2009 as an Inspector of Customs (IC), he has steadily risen through the ranks, attaining the position of Chief Superintendent of Customs in January 2024. He has served in several strategic roles, notably as the Customs Enforcement Statistics Desk Officer, where he was responsible for generating, analyzing, and disseminating anti-smuggling data for internal and external use. In September 2020, he was redeployed to a major seaport command as a frontline enforcement officer tasked with mitigating the influx of counterfeit, substandard, and illicit goods. Mr. Sadiq’s professionalism and global engagement have earned him several recognitions, including a Certificate of Merit from the World Customs Organization (WCO) for exceptional service to the international customs community, and a Certificate of Recognition from the International Narcotics Control Board (INCB), Vienna, Austria, where he served as an Expert Speaker at the 3rd Expert Group Meeting (EGM) on the trafficking of non-medical synthetic opioids through postal and express courier services. He has presented scholarly papers and policy briefs at numerous high-level conferences and professional forums, including the WCO PICARD Conference, World Border Security Congress (WBSC), International Association of Law Enforcement Intelligence Analysts (IALEIA), Nigeria Statistical Association (NSA), and the ASIAS Security Conference on Anti-Counterfeiting, Trademark, and Brand Protection, among others. Mr. Sadiq is passionate about leveraging data-driven intelligence, inter-agency collaboration, and technology innovation to strengthen customs enforcement, combat illicit trade, and promote safer and more efficient border management systems across Africa and beyond.
