Tharindu Jayawardhane is a security sector development practitioner with over 9 years of professional experience, and his work is primarily focused on border governance and security challenges of the Indian Ocean Region. Currently, serving as the National Programme Officer at the IOM Mission in Sri Lanka, Tharindu leads the immigration and border governance (IBG) programmatic arm implementing two flagship initiatives on integrated border management and vessel monitoring systems. He is the co-editor of ‘A View from the International Maritime Boundary Line; India – Sri Lanka’, a publication on maritime security of the region. With an interdisciplinary background in psychology, international relations and security studies, Tharindu’s research interests focus on evolving security paradigms due to interplay of human behaviour, environmental factors and converging technologies.
