Wayne H. Salzgaber began his appointment as Director of INTERPOL Washington, the United States National Central Bureau, in June 2018 after serving in the positions of Deputy Director and Acting Director since 2015. As Director, Mr. Salzgaber acts on behalf of the Attorney General as the official U.S. representative to INTERPOL, the world’s largest International Criminal Police Organization, and its 194 member countries. In this capacity, he leads the U.S. Government’s efforts to share and exchange international criminal investigative, border security, and humanitarian assistance information across the INTERPOL communication platform, and has responsibility for all personnel and assets dedicated to INTERPOL Washington’s mission of supporting domestic and international law enforcement and border security operations around the globe.

Mr. Salzgaber has worked in the public sector for over 30 years serving in key investigative, law enforcement, and military leadership positions. His public service career began with his enlistment in the United States Coast Guard (USCG) where he served on active duty until 2001, later returning to the USCG Reserves as a reserve commission officer serving until his retirement in 2010. While in the USCG and USCG Reserves, Mr. Salzgaber was assigned to a variety of leadership roles in operational and intelligence units responsible for conducting maritime law enforcement, port security, humanitarian and antiterrorism missions.

Mr. Salzgaber began his career as a criminal investigator in 1997 when he entered the Coast Guard Investigative Service (CGIS) as a Special Agent. In 2001, he transferred to the Office of Inspector General (OIG) community as a Special Agent with the Department of the Treasury OIG, later joining the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) OIG after its creation in 2003. While at DHS OIG, Mr. Salzgaber assisted in establishing the Office of Investigations and Special Investigations Division in Washington, DC, where he was named the Division’s Special Agent in Charge.

In 2010, Mr. Salzgaber was appointed to the Senior Executive Service as Deputy Assistant Inspector General for Investigations, where he headed the DHS OIG’s Investigative Field Operations Division. In this capacity, he had supervisory oversight responsibility for the agency’s entire national investigative operations portfolio across 14 regional field offices.

Mr. Salzgaber is currently detailed to INTERPOL Washington from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) at the Department of Homeland Security. Mr. Salzgaber holds a Bachelor’s degree in Criminology from Saint Leo University where he graduated Magna Cum Laude.
