Borut Eržen is a Head of Border Management and Security Programme at the ICMPD’s in Vienna. The organisation has 17 Member States, over 300 staff members, a mission in Brussels and regional offices and representatives throughout Europe, Northern Africa, the Middle East and Latin America. The purpose of ICMPD is to promote innovative, comprehensive and sustainable migration policies and to function as a service exchange mechanism between governments and organisations. Borut has been working for the Slovenian police at various managerial positions. He has been involved in numerous border management projects in the EU, the Balkans, Eastern Europe, the South Caucasus, Central Asia, Africa and Latin America. Borut has a degree in criminal justice from the Faculty of Criminal Justice and Security, Ljubljana; a Diploma in Security Studies from the NATO Defence College, Rome; and holds a Master’s Degree in Law from the European Law Faculty, Nova Gorica. He co-authored the Guidelines for Integrated Border Management in EC external cooperation.
